2014 TRAINING CAMP UPDATE

AUGUST 18, 2014

Friday was the official end of our 2014 training camp in preparation for our opening game at Hamilton this Saturday. Overall camp was a huge success as we hopefully put together the pieces to win another Ontario Football Conference championship. On paper the Fratmen look to have a strong team.

Realistically every position group has been upgraded from last year. Both Austin Lumley and Drake Sunderland are back at quarterback. The running back position is deep and talented with Emanuel Juma, Brandon Donkers and Cody McCann leading the way. Two huge additions to the receiving corps are Tom Howes and Kyle McGinnis, two former all-conference performers from out west. Our offensive line is anchored by Devon Kozar, a 2013 CJFL All-Canadian from the Okanagan Sun.

The defensive line is once again a strength. Anthony McDonald (2013 OFC All-Star) is back and better than ever. Dillon Grondin and Chris Deneau (2013 University of Windsor) have been stalwart performers to date at the linebacker spot as we await the return of 2013 CJFL Defensive Player of the Year Mason Beekhuis from the injured list. The level of talent in the defensive secondary is off the charts. Seamus Neary (former University of Saskatchewan Huskie) brings his considerable talent from the west and joins Jeremiah Hamilton, Josh Wright, and Hunter Mina from last years group.

Add in 2011 CJFL All-Canadians Richard Veenstra and Jake Nicoletti and you can see why we are fired up about the potential of the back end of the defense. The kicking game is in the hands of Steven Shott who was at training camp with the B.C. Lions in 2014. This week will see us add eight Essex Ravens who are coming off a trip to the OVFL Championship this past weekend. Welcome aboard to the Ravens and congrats on a great year. We look forward to you helping us win an OFC Championship.

OFC Players of the Week

OCTOBER 23, 2013

Tarrence Crawford (CCH) was a workhorse Saturday in Hamilton and has been awarded the OFC Offensive Player Of The Week. He rushed the ball 27 times for 166 yards on a stingy Hamilton defensive front. Despite joining the Fratmen in Week 5 Tarrence still finished 5th in the OFC in rushing during the regular season and has amassed 289 yards and 2 TD’s in the playoffs.

Ausin Crumb (Villanova) has terrorized punt coverage units all year on his way to being named OFC Return Specialist, but Saturday in Hamilton Austin used his hands and speed to terrorize the opposing QB’s. Austin picked off 3 passes, including 1 on the opening drive, and 1 on his own three yard line in the 4th Quarter. His interceptions were timely and helped keep points off the board. Because of this the young man in his first year as a Fratmen has been named OFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Johnny Muresan named 2013 Bill Prest Community Service Award Winner

Award winner, the first to accomplish that feat. Muresan becomes the 5th Fratmen to win the award. Johnny Muresan is heavily involved in the Windsor/Essex community. His list of volunteer activities is countless, they include “Breakout” which helps inner city youth ages 5-18, as well as “Breakout Bags” campaign that distributes toys, hats, gloves, and winter coats to Windsor children in need. He is heavily involved in “Operation Christmas Child” with his church. The movement sends shoe boxes filled with toothbrushes, toiletries, toys, books, crayons, and pencils to children living in third world countries. Last year alone Johnny’s church sent over 2000 boxes overseas. Johnny is involved in MANY more activities on top of his commitments to the Fratmen and school. He is able to make an impact on the world both near and far, he has shown the ability to reach out to those in need and make their life better in the process. The Fratmen football family is very proud of our players on field accomplishments, but we are even more proud of our players OFF field endeavours.

Fratmen Dismantle Cougars in Semi-Final Win

OCTOBER 12, 2013

MORE INFO

All Star Team and Award Winners

October 10, 2013

#1 DL Anthony McDonald (Holy Names)

Anthony McDonald has been a leader on Defense for the Windsor AKO Fratmen all three seasons he has suited up, and after a strong 2013 season earned his first All Star Appearance. McDonald finished his final season with the Fratmen with 10 tackles, 6 assists, 2.5 quarterback sacks and 35.5 defensive points. McDonald led a strong defensive front that allowed only 592 rushing yards in 8 games. Head Coach Mike LaChance says “He is a great leader who has worked hard to become one of the top defensive ends in the conference. He has the ability to stuff the run and rush the passer and prides himself in his versatility.”

#3 CB Austin Crumb (Villanova)

Austin Crumb in his first season in the OFC earned an all star selection despite missing the first 2 games of the season. Austin electrified crowds all year in the return game and finished with 578 yards on 26 returns and 2 TD’s, as well as 7 kickoff returns for 220 yards and a TD. On defense he had 11 tackles 5 assists a blocked kick, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery as well as 3 INT’s one of which he returned for a TD. His 49 defensive points ended the year 5th on the team in points. Head Coach Mike LaChance says “Austin Crumb is a playmaker. If he has the ball in his hands he is a threat to score. As a cover guy he is very physical and aggressive. His size and speed make him a matchup nightmare for teams to deal with.”

#10 LB Mason Beekhuis (Sandwich)

Mason Beekhuis had an absolutely monster year for the black and gold. He finished 3rd in the league in defensive points with 108.5. He broke an AKO record for Quarterback Sacks with 12.5 and had 24 tackles 7 assists and 1 INT. Mason also added 5 special teams tackles including a massive collision in Week 1 that set the tone for the season. Head Coach Mike LaChance says “Mason is the best defender in the OFC and the voting showed as much. He is fast, relentless, and physical at the point of attack. Mason leads by example and plays the game the way it is supposed to be played.”

#3 Austin Crumb – OFC Return Specialist

Austin is so feared as a punt returner that the league has begun to kick away from him after just 6 games as a Fratmen. Leading the OFC with 578 punt return yards Austin came just 51 yards shy of the AKO record for most punt return yards in a season.

#10 Mason Beekhuis – OFC Defensive Player of the Year

Mason Beekhuis was the most destructive force in the OFC this season. Coaches had to game plan around the 4th year linebacker and prevent him from getting to the QB. His high sack totals became the story of the season, as he broke the AKO Sack record, accumulating 12.5 QB sacks, however he was the heart and soul of a defense that allowed only 74 rushing yards per game. Mason is the first Fratmen to win Defensive Player of the Year since Joe Barnes won the honor in 2001.
